I've been gone from SLC for many years but it has been a mess ever since I can remember and I'm an old guy.

Look, there are always wolves in sheeps' clothing. Moving away from "Zion" won't solve that problem. Here where I live, we have civil unions and down the street a man can marry a pig if he chooses. And our taxes pay for the pig's benefits. This isn't exactly an ideal environment in which to raise a family either.

Stay where you are and fight for what is right. Don't cut and run.

Try to find a better place Brian.. It isn't going to happen. Unless you consider the mountains south of Mantua and lock the door. That might work...

Well, my brother, Come to Middle Tennessee! We're almost done eradicating the hills of the moonshine peddlers, and the last lynching was more than ten years ago! Once we get the school buses to separate the kindergartners from the high schoolers we will be ready for ascension! Come on down!

Wow Iver - your plain speech has made the mark. Well done. Like many here in the shadows of the everlasting hills, I had forgotten that it could also be the valley of the shadow of death - spiritually and temporally. Thanks for the reminder. I appreciate a man who knows his doctrine.

I don't know the exact fate of SLC, but there are three things that make me think that part of it (just the temple) will weather the storm:

1.the switch from red rock to granite constrution
2.inverted arches in the foundation
3.Brigham mentioning that he wanted it built to last through the millenium.

Now, other than taking me to task for my doctrinally unfounded assumptions regarding the long-term righteousness of SLC, did you happen to have any solutions for me? For example: Hey, there's a new state/fed/non-profit grant that lets families buy ranches in the desert when they fear their current society. THAT would be cool. I have this place in mind....

Well said, oh wise brother. One thing that the good people of Utah seem to forget is that SLC NEVER WAS intended to be Zion. In fact, in the doctrine and covenants the people were driven from the real Zion because they were "not spiritually prepared". In my mind, I think SLC is a lot like the wilderness that the Israelites had to stay in in Moses' time until they were righteous enough to inherit the promised land. Nowhere in scripture (or elsewhere) do you read that SLC has any place in the second coming or millennium. Having lived there, I'm convinced that there's a reason for that.

Lastly, what about that scripture that says Wo be to those who cry all is well in Zion; yea, Zion prospereth, all is well—and thus the devil cheateth their souls, and leadeth them away carefully down to hell? Hmmm, You mean the BOM has application to members as well as non-members? I thought it was just a missionary tool to convince non-members of their sinful ways
